Pet Coke
Also known as green coke, pet coke is the raw form which has directly come out of Coker. The coke is fuel grade which is high on sulphur and metals. It is a byproduct of oil refiner industry. It refers to all types of carbonaceous solids obtained during the processing of petroleum. It is one of the most appropriate, economical, environment friendly fuels of modern times. The coke is heated up to 475 to 520 degrees centigrade and then is transferred to drum for extensive and controlled cracking. Then the liter part comes up and heavier part settles down and because of the retained heat the material cracks to coke which is known as pet coke. It is 90 percent of carbon and emits 5- 10 % of carbon dioxide.
Pet coke has the calorific value of 8500 which is almost 2900 times more than the best fuel. It does not leave any residue unlike other coal which saves the maintainace cost as negligible ash is left behind. The invisible smoke while burning this fuel makes it an eco friendly fuel.
Furnace oil needs to meet the specifications of Bureau Indian standard specifications for fuel oil grade MV2. Furnace oil is specially recommended for use in diesel engines for naval applications and Merchant Navy. It is also used as a fuel for power generation in DG sets, it act as a fuel for boilers, furnaces, heaters, air pre heaters, bunkering and feedstock in fertilizer plants.
The imported pet coke is used for burning the fuels materials like power generation, silicon melting, and cement industry. It is also used for the production of calcined petroleum which is further used for the production of graphite products like anode, aluminum, steel, and titanium. The major use of pet coke is in cement plants and power stations. The coke is with too high metal content that it cannot be calcined and hence is used for burning. It is used in the applications like electrodes and anodes. Due to its high calorific value and carbon content it's widely used in brick and metal industry.
