CRMB (Crum Rubber Modified Bitumen) & PMD (Polymer Modified Bitumen)
SS Trade Solutions guided by its vision of being “A Catalyst in the Infrastructure Development of the Country” has entered the roads and highways sector as a leading supplier of paving grade bitumen from international and domestic sources in compliance . Bitumen also known as asphalt is a sticky black liquid or the semi-solid form of petroleum. The product is made by refining the crude oil and removing its lighter fractions such as petroleum gas, petrol and diesel. Bitumen is highly soluble in carbon disulfide and is composed of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
The major role of bitumen and its usage is for construction purpose. Mainly it is used for the purpose of constructing roads its glue like mixture binds the other particles to create asphalt concrete. The naturally occurring crude bitumen is the prime stock for petroleum production from tar sand.
There was a time when bitumen was used to waterproof boats and also as coatings for buildings with the addition of some other materials. It is estimated that 310 billion barrels of bitumen is extracted from Alberta every year. A French scientist joseph nicephore used bitumen for creating the first black and white picture. It was smeared on pewter plates and then the picture with black and white effect was created. The bitumen plates are sometimes used for the computers silencing or we can say for the noisy parts such as hard drive.
It is estimated that every year 102 million Bitumen is produced out of which 85% is used for the purpose of construction of roads. Another place where this material is used is the paved areas like airport runways, car parking's and footways. It is also used in printing ink and rubber.
At times people get confused between Bitumen and Tar. That is due to its appearance and some of its qualities but they vary at their chemical composition and properties. Whereas tar is produce by heating coal at high temperature and is a by product of gas and coke production. Thus bitumen is the main source of improving road transportation and construction work.
