Furnace Oil
Furnace oil used in the generation of heat and fuel is a dark color fuel obtained from distillation or residual fraction of crude oil. Also known as fuel oil or bunker fuel is sticky thick and glutinous in nature. It's an industrial fuel used in the generation of heat and electricity in huge production units. A low sulphur fuel which emits less sulphur dioxide can minimize the environmental pollution is used as a fuel for power generating, boilers, furnaces, bunkering and much more. It's a class C product having the flash value of 660C.
Viscosity is an important aspect if we look at the specification of furnace oil. It influences the degree of pre-heat which is helpful in handling and storing. Pre-heating is necessary for proper optimization of furnace oil. Furnace oil needs to meet the specifications of Bureau Indian standard specifications for fuel oil grade MV2. Furnace oil is specially recommended for use in diesel engines for naval applications and Merchant Navy. It is also used as a fuel for power generation in DG sets, it act as a fuel for boilers, furnaces, heaters, air pre heaters, bunkering and feedstock in fertilizer plants.
But the fuel should be handled with proper care as its exposure may cause various problems like ingestion, skin problems which may result in to continuous vomiting, irritation of mouth throat and gastro intestinal tracts. The problems like dry skin, skin cancer, skin cracking may also occur. The fuel should be carefully handled and should be stored at a cool, dry and well ventilated place. The contact of liquid and vapors, should also be avoided.
